There are really so many uses for Baking Soda. It is amazing and can give you a lot with one little box. I like to buy it in bulk at Sam’s Club or Costco because we go through it so fast. You will be surprised how many different ways you can use it – how many of these are you already doing?

16 Uses for Baking Soda {Beauty, Cleaning, Household, and Cooking}

  • Beauty & Health
    • Use with your toothpaste to neutralize odors and whiten teeth or make your own toothpaste.
    • Use on sunburns,  itchy area’s, and insect bites (made into a paste with water and apply to the affected areas).
    • In the shower, mix a small amount of baking soda with your shampoo then wash and rinse as normal. This removes residue and gives you a better clean. You can also do this with your conditioner to help prevent split ends. If you have dandruff problems, just use baking soda alone to help repair your scalp.
    • Make a paste with 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water and apply softly to skin in a circular motion then rinse to exfoliate.
  • Cleaning
    • Add 1/2-1 cup to each load of laundry to remove odors and brighten colors
    • Mix with vinegar, liquid detergent, water, and other ingredients to create homemade cleaners.
    • Sprinkle on carpets, rugs, seat cushions, cars, and other fabrics to refresh and neutralize odors. Wait at least 15 mins, then vacuum.
    • Use 3 parts Baking Soda to 1 part warm water and use as a scrub for Polishing your Silver.
  • Household
    • Grease and oil stains on your sidewalks can be cleaned up by sprinkling baking soda on the spot, then scrubbing with a wet brush.
    • Use 1 qt of warm water and 1/4-1/2 cup of baking soda to create a baking soda solution used to clean your car. Use on lights, floor mats, vinyl seats, tires, windows, chrome and more without scratching the finish.
    • Scatter baking soda on icy sidewalks.
    • Sprinkle in cat boxes before putting the liner in to help neutralize odors
  • Cooking
    • Add 1/2 tsp to every 3 eggs when making Omelets, to make them fluffier.
    • Add a pinch of baking soda to boiled soda to prevent it from crystallizing
    • Make your own baking powder by adding 2 parts cream of tarter, 1 part baking soda, and 1 part cornstarch
    • Sprinkle onto fruits and veggies and scrub with a clean damp sponge to wash your produce. Rinse before eating.

There are so many other great uses for Baking Soda, but these were my top favorites. I would love to hear your tips and tricks for how you use baking soda in your home.

There are so many great uses for baking soda. But one on the list that I did not know about is to put some in my shampoo to help get rid of buildup. I will have to try this and see how my hair feels. I also use it to help whiten my teeth and it really works great!!

When the Fukishima disaster happened, my husband bought lots of baking soda because supposedly it helps keep the kidneys free of toxic chemicals. Don’t know how accurate that is, but I saw lots of articles on it at the time.
